The Public Broadcasting System (PBS) reports on St. Luke's parish in Bladensburg, Maryland: an Anglican community that has entered the Catholic Church through the new US ordinariate.
Rev. Ian Markham, the dean of Virginia Theological Seminary, says that Anglicans today may see the Catholic Church as a threat "because we've lost the sense of our theological understanding and identity."
Some Anglicans resent the Catholic outreach under the provisions of Anglicanorum Coetibus, charging that the Vatican has encouraged "sheep-stealing." Anne Marie Whittaker, a member of St. Luke's parish, has a strong response:
Let me tell you something about sheep stealing. You cannot steal sheep if the shepherd is doing his job, and that's the bottom line. If the shepherd is doing his job, the flock will stay.
